Parent Check

Helping You Help Your Parents

You are here: Home / About

About

Parent Check, Inc. was started to provide information when it comes to adult children caring for their parents in their retirement and/or golden years.  Many of us are faced with difficult decisions and challenges when caring for our parents.  There is a lot of emotional energy that is involved in caring for our parents because the roles are reversed now.  It’s hard to see our parents in a state of mind that leave us, as the children, worried about their health, safety, etc.

The founder of Parent Check was also a parent caregiver.  Her mom was the inspiration for starting this business.  “Why” you ask?  Her mother had COPD/Emphysema.  She also had a mild heart attack back in 2004 and had been diagnosed with Coronary Heart Disease and Congestive Heart Failure. She was on oxygen, took a lot of medication and was pretty much home bound – partly because of the illness and partly of her own doing.

The founder started to see a pattern with her mother’s behavior towards her and and the care she was trying to give her.  Her mother wouldn’t tell her when she didn’t feel well, but she would tell other people.  She said she could not do things when her daughter was around, and yet when others were around, she could do them.  She wouldn’t go anywhere with her daughter, but if her girlfriend asked her to go to lunch, she’d make every effort to go.  When they would go to the doctor, she would tell them things that she never told her daughter, or she’d over exaggerate what was wrong with her to either gain sympathy or attention.  There’s a lot more than this but you should get the gist of what she is trying to say.  Her Mom died on June 8, 2008 and she hopes that she can share her experiences with others.

Taking on the role of caregiver to our parents can be an enormous challenge. She wanted to share the things that she’s learned and pass on viable information and resources that can help anyone who is a caregiver to a parent and/or other special loved one.

She hope visitors to the site will find the information useful and would appreciate the sharing of helpful information or names of organizations that would enrich ParentCheck.us’s audience. Simply send an email to her at administrator@parentcheck.org.   She’d would be glad to review and consider it for this website.
